Texas Tech wins Car Care Bowl that included a juggling interception and player ejections

Texas Tech player punches Minnesota playerAfter an apparent touchdown in the 3rd quarter of the Texas Bowl, Texas Tech Jace Amaro was ejected after throwing a punch at Minnesota’s Derrick Wells’ helmet. The 15 yard penalty was to be added on to the ensuing kickoff. However, replays showed Texas Tech RB didn’t get the ball across the goal line as was called on the field. Instead, the ball was knocked loose by Minnesota LB Aaron Hill and fumbled out-of-bounds at the one foot line. The 15 yard penalty was figured from the new spot and it was 3 and goal from the 15 yard line.

Jr. DE Ra’Shede Hagemon knocked down Seth Doege’s pass attempt on 3rd down. On 4th down Texas Tech lined up for a field goal attempt but a false start pushed the Red Raiders back another 5 yards. The 38 yard field goal attempt was blocked by Minnesota’s Monty Calhoun.

Minnesota’s Michael Carter makes a juggling interception in the forth quarter of the Meineke Car Care Bowl against Texas Tech. This was Michael Carter’s second interception of the game. Carter’s first interception was on the previous drive.

The Texas Bowl has been contentious. Texas Tech has incurred 13 penalties, including 5 personal fouls, for 135 yards thus far.

Despite the Red Raider’s dearth of penalties they came back to win the game 31-34 with a field goal as time expired.
